The issues to identify are the flow rate and veleocity of the incoming or out going fluid, the amount of space available for strenghtening ribs where the pipe penetrates the blind flang normally used to hang the pipe from the nozzle and the velocity of the fluid when it emerges. Step Inside.Quick Navigation AOP Residential HVAC Top Was this collar there just to be a pain or is it there to signify that the nipple is not to be removed? Is the old dip tube supposed to slide out of the inside of the dip tube and the new slide in? I tried to grab the top of the cream-colored plastic that is inside the nipple, but that doesn't budge either and it doesn't look anything like the replacement dip tube Rheem sent me.Īlso, the nipple had a metal collar slid onto it that required considerable effort to bend the fins back to remove it. The teeth on my wrench started to dig into the metal of the nipple so I stopped. I have tried to remove the nipple that is supposedly above the dip tube (according to the diagram in the owner's manual), but that thing won't budge. So, I got a replacement dip tube from Rheem, they said the exact fit part was out of stock and so they shipped me a "compatible" dip tube a Protech 30" helix. It's hot enough for a shower or two and other daily tasks (laundry, dishes, etc.). It can't fill a normal sized bath tub with hot water. It's a 50 gallon Rheem gas water heater purchased in November, 2013. Our water heater has been showing the symptoms of a broken or cracked dip tube.
